One of our very first thoughts when we set out on our Crabtree Crusade was to make Mr. Crabtree accessible to a new generation.
Over the years we’ve had countless people contact us and tell us they’ve dug out their original copies of the book and spent many a happy hour reminiscing over the tales of Mr. Crabtree and Peter that first inspired them to get out on the bank.
There’s something undeniably special about those original copies. The way they smell, the way the pages have discoloured and softened over time, the tea stains and the bits that your little brother coloured in when you weren’t looking. It all adds up to something very special indeed.
What we wanted to do was create a version of the original that captured all of that history, the look, feel and soul of Mr. Crabtree.
And we had to wait for technology to catch up!
Bernard Venables was an incredibly talented artist and his paintings would have been wasted by stripping out the colour. Now though, thanks to the launch of kindle fire and the kindle apps for android and ipad, you can view the book in all of its original glory. We’ve collaborated with the reprographic experts at Mirrorpix to put this ebook together and we’re delighted to be able to introduce Mr. Crabtree to the digital age.
