PikeTeethAs I write this I am currently sat on the bank under the stars fishing for Perch. It’s that time of year where the temperature has finally dropped and those of us that choose to have cracked open the lure box and readied all of our predator fish gear.

The cold weather seems to be the best time of year for it, but many anglers have great success all year round.

I decided myself to spend a cold Sunday morning on a local canal fishing dead baits whilst chucking some lures around after anything that would take the bait. My approach was simple as always; ledgered Sprat wherever it took my fancy and a simple drop shot method on my other rod.

I had picked out several swims in my head before leaving home and I was on my first chosen swim by 7am.

Cutting a long story short, nothing seemed to work for the Pike & Zander on any method, including lures, but I did mange to tempt a few small perch.

Not wanting to blank I packed up and headed to a River not too far from home.

It didn’t take long for me to get my first and only run of the day….. a beautiful Pike of about 6/7 pounds rolled over my net.

Happy that my persistence had paid off I once again packed up my gear and headed on home for a well deserved cuppa.
