Mr. Crabtree for a new generation

If you’re an angler of a ‘certain age’ you’ll already know all about Mr. Crabtree.  Maybe you were one of the 3 million proud owners of the original book Mr. Crabtree Goes Fishing, by legendary angler Bernard Venables? It’s very likely that you refer to ‘Crabtree swims’, that you know what a ‘gentle’ is and that the idea of fishing in a tweed three-piece-suit doesn’t really seem that odd to you.  Congratulations you’re a Crabtree kid! The trials and tribulations of filming Mr. Crabtree during the Summer of 2012

When we were planning to film the first series of Mr Crabtree earlier this year, we were experiencing a rather wet Spring. ‘The Mr. Crabtree experience’ by ‘Peter’ – aka Henry

by Henry Grayling, aged 10

Well I had great time fishing for Tench, Pike and perch also catching a carp on a centre pin reel.

I would like to say the crew and John are great and made me feel very welcome. John taught me how to cast well with a centre pin. On the first day at 5 AM we cast out our feeders and rubber maggots and it poured down and then we went for breakfast wich was cooked by Sarah, a lovely fry up!!!  After breakfast we went back to the island and John helped me catch a 7.10lb tench, thanks so much John. Thanks also to the Angler’s Mail and Anglers Net for all their support. […]

The Final 50 are here!

We had no idea when we launched the Search for ‘Peter’ how successful it would be and we’ve been constantly delighted by the support that we’ve received from the angling community.  Last night we sent emails to 50 lucky finalists.  We had originally intended to shortlist to just 12 but sifting through the thousands of entries proved to be an impossible task and we found ourselves wishing we could take many, many more to the next stage.
