Search-for-a-TV-star producer reveals the secret to winning

As the Search for ‘Peter’ competition enters its final few days, and the first stage of sifting through the mountain of entries begins, Executive Producer Lester Holcombe reveals the secret to winning:

“It’s easy – just be yourself. We’re not looking for an actor – Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree is not a staged drama, there are no lines, no costumes and there’ll be no pretence.  We’re looking for kids who genuinely love angling, or the idea of angling – we’ve had entrants who’ve never picked up a rod in their life, but who desperately want to be given the opportunity to try.” […]

Could this be you?

WOW! What an amazing response we’ve had to the Search for ‘Peter’. You’ve sent in some terrific entries and we’re going to have a really hard job sifting through them all.

There’s still nearly two whole weeks to go before the competition closes, so plenty of time to get your entry in.  There’s also time to tell your friends – make sure that no one misses out on this wonderful opportunity.  Remember there’s four places up for grabs so you could all win – how cool would that be? A moment’s reflection

It’s been a reflective week for me this week and I would like to take a moment to pay my respects to two greats of Angling.

Tuesday was Bernard Venables’ Birthday. I never got to fish or meet with Bernard but many of my colleagues including John Bailey and James Arnold Baker did so, and they have regaled me with many stories and adventures.

Bernard is of course the reason that we are all involved with Crabtree, for he wrote, what is for me, the greatest of all angling books in Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing. It’s what inspired me and literally millions of others to fish and I know that all of the work we’re currently undertaking with the new TV series (Fishing in the footsteps of Mr Crabtree), the reprints of the original book, and the new book being written by John Bailey is all being carried out with Bernard’s memory and the preservation of the Crabtree way foremost in our hearts and minds. […]

Happy Venables Day!

It may be Valentine’s Day for many, but for us today will forever be all […]

A message from the Executive Producer

In the coming months fans of Mr Crabtree will see our new TV series and shows scheduled for later this year and also into 2013 and beyond.

We are also creating an authentic re-print of the original ‘Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing’ in all of its classic glory (beware of imitations and awful copies!).

There will be a brand new book to accompany the new series ‘Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr Crabtree’ (leatherbound and special pre-order editions will be available soon). There will be gifts and clothing, a limited membership to the ‘Friends of Mr Crabtree’ and a licensed tackle range of fishing tackle and equipment carrying the Crabtree seal of quality, value and heritage. […]

The Search is ON!

Mr. Crabtree goes fishing, written by the late Bernard Venables, began life in the Daily Mirror where it was serialised for over 25 years.  It remains the largest selling fishing book of all time.

The Mirror Group, in conjunction with Toast Entertainment Group and the Angler’s Mail is launching a search for a new ‘Peter’. A nationwide search to find four boys or girls, aged 8 to 14 who will join angling legend John Bailey, as he fishes in the footsteps of Mr. Crabtree in a forthcoming TV series due to broadcast late 2012. Watch this space

It’s a brisk Saturday morning and we’re watching the catch reports for news from the banks.  We’ve already seen talk of ice on the reels so it looks as though our mild winter is finally passing over.

Thanks to anyone who’s dropping in on the site at the moment.  We’re very much the proverbial ducks on water at the moment – paddling like mad just out of view, so please bear with us.

Happy New Year!

Some of you may already have ventured out in 2012. We always think it’s the ideal counter to the excesses of Christmas and New Year, although looking at the weather hereabouts today it would have been a day chasing bivvies and umbrellas down the bank. […]
