So that was The Big One and WOW, wasn’t it just? If you’re ever in need of a reminder of how healthy the sport is, or the amount of passion that anglers have for what they do all you need to do is pop along to a trade show and watch the world go by.

This was our first ‘official’ presence at a show. We were on the front line and looking forward to meeting friends old and new. And we certainly did that – thanks to everyone who wandered over to say hello and have a chat, it’s the friendly faces that make all the difference when you’ve been up since 5am.

We must say a thank you to our friends at Nash and the Angler’s Mail for sharing their stands with us, and also to Hardy Greys and Shimano for some good chin wags. We’ll take away lots of memories, and we’re looking forward to doing it all over again next week at Carpin’ On – come and see us on the Angling Publications and Carp Fishing News stands.

In the meantime here’s five things we learned at The Big One:

1. Set-up day is the day before they turn the heating on. Dress for the arctic (and then some)

2. Wear comfortable shoes – this is mandatory. Have a physiotherapist on call (optional but highly recommended)

3. It’s impossible to meet Dean Macey without saying “Wow, aren’t you tall?” Sorry Dean…

4. If you want to give out lots of flyers and free DVDs, bribe a young child to do it for you. Instant success guaranteed

5. Fishing is full of nice people. Thanks guys!
