The search for ‘Peter’
Now this is exciting…
Mr. Crabtree goes fishing, written by the late Bernard Venables, remains the largest selling fishing book of all time.
Captivating literally millions of young anglers, anyone who grew up on Mr. Crabtree will know Peter, the son of Mr. Crabtree in the books and the long running comic strip, both created by the Daily Mirror. Possibly you identified with him whilst fishing alongside your own mentor, and will now understand how vital that relationship can be in developing a love for fishing, growing an appreciation of the natural environment, and learning all of those tricks that we carry with us to our dotage.
Toast Entertainment Group, in conjunction with the Daily Mirror, Angler’s Mail and Anglers’ Net, is launching a search for a new ‘Peter’. A nationwide search to find four boys or girls, aged 8 to 14 who will join angling legend John Bailey, as he walks in the footsteps of Mr. Crabtree in a forthcoming TV series due to broadcast late 2012.
The Crabtree values are still as relevant today as they were way back when, with heritage that contains a wealth of nostalgia for any angler, illustrated by a back-to-basics approach that can appeal to all anglers, of all ages, irrespective of ability or status.
Mr. Crabtree fished using his head and heart, never blanked, and instilled in Peter a love for the natural environment, a sense of shared angling comradery, and an enviable level knowledge of angling techniques.
This is a brilliant opportunity, so much so that we all wish we were young enough to enter. Sadly we’re not, but we bet you know someone who is. So, what do you need to know? It’s all very simple stuff but if you decide to enter please make sure you read and agree to the Terms & Conditions first.
1. ‘Peter’ needs to be aged between 8 and 14
2. ‘Peter’ can be a Girl or a Boy
3. ‘Peter’ doesn’t have to be able to fish already, but should be very interested – This is NOT about getting on the TV at all costs
4. ‘Peter’ will be expected to adhere to certain standards of behaviour – we are looking for a role model for other children
And that’s it. So, if your ‘Peter’ can tick all of those boxes it’s time to enter. Click here to enter online, or here if you’d prefer to download the form and post it to us. Entry closes on 2nd March 2012 so act now, don’t leave it too late.
We apologise now for the fact that we will not be able to contact all of the entrants individually. We will release the shortlist w/c 13th March 2012 and then it’s in the hands of our panel to decide the winner. The four winners will be notified and announced by the end of the month.
Good luck to you all!
