My Dad had arranged for me to fish a farm pond as he knew the farmer through his work. As he was coming with me to show me the way I suggested that he might as well fish, Dad agreed & would give it a go so I got him a day rod & line licence & set him up with a waggler.

It was a beautiful sunny morning & after about an hour I caught a small carp followed by a few small rudd, Dad struggled with the rod to start with as he had never fished before. Eventually the casts started to get further & smoother & about midday he was rewarded with his first fish! The only problem was that I had to take a call of nature so I had to give him instruction on how to play the fish & a few minutes later I was able to help him land the beautiful common carp. Seeing that it was his first fish we weighed it (about 3lb I
seem to remember) & took a photo.

From that day Dad has been hooked on fishing & has caught countless carp, bream, tench & perch from our local club waters in Shamley Green & various other waters in Surrey & West Sussex

That was 15 years ago & ever since that day we have both enjoyed many many days fishing together just like Mr Crabtree & Peter but in reverse as I taught my Dad how to fish!

Dads ambition is to land a 20lb carp & a tench over 4lbs. & with his enthusiasm & fishing skills I’m sure he will get them!
