Fourteen year old James was our ‘Peter’ for Episode Three of Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr Crabtree.  He and his Dad joined Team Crabtree for a lovely couple of days catching pike and perch.  Here is James’ account; we think he enjoyed himself!

When we arrived we were immediately greeted by John and then Lester.  Then to my surprise a great goodie bag from Nash Tackle!  Me and my dad had a good wander round the beutiful lakes then settled down to meet the rest of the crew as they joined us from near and far.  Then Sarah cooked us some great food and off to bed at 11 to get up at 3am!!!

We went to the first mill and did some filming and after breakfast moved on to our second mill, where John showed me how to lure fish correctly just like Mr Crabtree.  Then it was back to base for lunch and off to the next mill.  PHEW!!  But we couldn’t fish there because somebody already fishing there.  Fair enough.  Instead we went to the river  in search of a monster.  John gave me some more very useful fishing tips.  After that back to camp and met Paula who was very lovely and sat down to supper which Sarah had cooked beautifully again I may say.

We got up at 6am the next day for pike and perch on the big lake wher I got to use the centre pin for the first time. Very nice. We caught some cracking perch to 2lb and then we went for some pike in the bay (no not the beach).  We were successful and finally we moved onto the mill where the man was, and fished sink and draw style which John showed me in Crabtree style.

After filming at the mill we went back and had supper and talked about the wonderful two days we had together.  Once again the food was excellent (Sarah’s gonna love me for this).  Off to bed and a good think of wat a great time I’ve just had.

Next day me and dad got a quick bit of perch fishing in with a lovelly float that John kindly gave me and caught another 2lb perch (awesome).  We were also very lucky with the weather for the two days.  Then the time came to say goodbye before we left for Cardiff.

I would like to say a massive thankyou to John for enabling me to experience fishing in Mr Crabtree style and his wonderful patience.  To the film crew, Nigel the hat, Howie the belt (not), Roger the noise (sorry for wrecking your ear drums, you’ll get over it honest), and Steve on camera 2 who nicked my bed!!  Also a very special thanks to Lester and Paula for letting me experience what I did.

Oh and Sarah just thought I’d give you a mention, and Kevin Nash for my great stuff (thanks Kev).  I just cant wait to see you all again it was so much fun.  James
