There’s an old saying, ‘Never say never.’ True in many forms of life and especially fishing, as a positive attitude can be the difference between a good or bad day on the banks, and my first rule of river fishing is NEVER rule out roving the rivers you fish.

If you’re not sure what Roving means, in short it means to roam or to wander and explore. So when I talk about  ‘River Roving,’ I mean that it’s important to roam around the rivers you fish, to explore and really get to know them, watch how the water moves, how the plants and wildlife impact on the river, and over time, how the seasons change it.

There is another old saying, ‘Knowledge Is Power’ and by taking the time to rove the river banks you will gain an abundance of knowledge, which to any angler is invaluable and regardless of what you catch, or how often, will always enhance your fishing.

There are dozens of reasons why river roving is important to any angler, young or old, and it would be impossible for me to cover them all. They’re also subjective, and you’ll have your own opinions on which are more or less important. Over the coming weeks I’ll be going through some of the benefits of roving which, I believe, if used will improve your chances of catching. I hope you’ll join me and share your thoughts.
